The ThunderPack Revision-2, Generation-2 (R2G2), is the current enhanced rocketbelt design produced by Thunderbolt Aerosystems between 2004 and 2006. This model can be manufactured to operate on either dual-fuel mode, as its predecessor TP-R1G2 and it can utilize specially promoted hydrogen peroxide (PERTOL) or standard High Test Peroxide, or can be ordered operating in monopropellant mode, utilizing only specially promoted hydrogen peroxide (PERTOL) or standard High Test Peroxide
The TP-R2G2M (monopropellant mode) is the flagship of Thunderbolt Aerosystems and has been tested with flight durations ranging between 35 to 45 seconds with a standard pilot weight of 160 lbs. These actual flight durations include reserve fuel capacity (typically, 5 to 10 seconds reserve is necessary for average safe landings) and assumes an ascension rate of 5 feet per second. Flight times vary on fuel load, pilot plus payload weight and variability of acceleration after take-off.
The model TP-R2G2D (dual-fuel mode), has been bench tested for a potential flight duration of 75 seconds with a standard pilot weight of 160 lbs plus 20 lbs payload (180 lbs gross weight). This anticipated flight duration does not take into account the reserve fuel capacity (typically, 5 to 10 seconds reserve is necessary for average safe landings) and assumes an ascension rate of 5 feet per second. Flight times vary on fuel load, pilot plus payload weight and variability of acceleration after take-off.
Both current models TP-R2G2M and TP-R2G2D have a maximum gross (pilot plus payload) take-off weight of 340 lbs and thrust can be adjusted with a simple control mechanism on the ThunderPacks, to match the pilots’ take-off weight. Flight duration and take-off weight are inversely proportional (higher pilot+payload weight = shorter flight times and range).
